You shouldn't have to choose between a tote bag and a backpack. That's why I designed my Spud™ bags to shift seamlessly between the two, depending on your carriage preferences for each and every outing.

Why 'Spud'? Well. As soon as I took delivery of this particular waxed cotton cloth, I knew I couldn't treat it like any other.

Something about the substantial matt hand of this British Millerain cloth, so utterly unblemished - before the Flood, before the Fall... it seemed wrong to deploy it in any design that might interrupt this endless expanse of perfection.

Unwilling to let go of my initial vision of a convertible tote/backpack, I set about combining that concept with the unsullied line this cloth demanded. Instantly I knew that cotton sash cord would have to be called upon (jute would shed too much in the conversion process). I also knew I needed to hide the cord's comings and goings - which I did through a scheme involving judicious folds and the hammering-in of chandlery grommets. 

As I melded vision with cloth it seemed clear to me that the bag I was devising owed more to the Platonic ideal of the archetypal potato sack than it did to anything else. Its simplicity - four sides, four corners, called out for a simple name: Spud, with its perfect satisfying sound, and its four sure letters: fond, familiar, certain. 

Spud's design is minimalistic, with sturdy materials that will last a very long time indeed. The bag equivalent of a timeless (and endless) Fixie. 

For what its worth, you shouldn't store potatoes in a waxed canvas bag. They need to breathe. But once you get your hands on a Clean Alibi Spud bag I doubt you'd want to leave it in the pantry for long anyway.
